MicroStrain wins two Golds at Sensors Expo

JOSE, CA, May 22, 2002 - The editors of Sensors magazine have selected
12 gold, silver, and bronze winners in two categories (Sensors and
Sensor Components) for the Best of Sensors Expo awards, presented at
Sensors Expo Spring 2002 in San Jose, CA. MicroStrain continued its
unmatched recognition for innovation by winning two of the four Gold
Awards presented.
With the Best of Sensors Expo awards, the editors of Sensors, the
leading publication in the sensors industry for over 18 years,
recognize new products that they predict will significantly impact the
use of sensing in designs and applications. The winners were chosen
from 38 nominations.
Category: Sensors The greatest number of winners were selected in the
category of Sensors, that is, self-contained devices that detect a
property and produce a signal. Only three golds were awarded in this
category.
GOLD AWARD: MicroStrain's (Burlington, VT, 802-862-6629) 3DM-G inertial
measurement unit packs a lot into a tiny package: three orthogonal MEMS
accelerometers, three vector magnetometers, three angular rate gyros,
and a microprocessor that quickly computes orientation over 360 on all
three axes and outputs the data in RS-232 or RS-485 format. It was
designed for health monitoring, but has many other applications, from
automotive to virtual reality.
Category: Sensor Components There was one winner (Gold level) in the
category of Sensor Components, which covers parts that make up a sensor
device.
GOLD AWARD: The Microminiature Gauging DVRT position sensor from
MicroStrain (Burlington, VT, 802-862-6629) features patented
temperature compensation electronics to minimize errors. It was
developed as an efficient, effective quality check for cable
connectors, but has many other potential applications, especially since
it will function even while immersed in liquid.
