Williston, VT - June 17, 2008 - MicroStrain Inc today announced that it has been
awarded another Gold "Best of Sensors Expo" award in the sensor category. MicroStrain
has now won nine Gold awards and one Silver award in the last seven years.
This years award was for Shear-Link™ (patent pending), which is a line of wireless
shear pins that integrates a load sensing pin with strain gauge signal conditioning,
internal battery, precision timekeeping, data logging, & wireless transceiver into
one rugged, sealed module. Shear-Link™ pins are available in a range of sizes to
meet the needs of a wide range of applications.
The strain sensing elements are located within a precision machined aperture within
the center of the Shear-Links™ stainless steel load bearing shaft; these connect
internally to the integrated microelectronics module. The aperture is very small
in diameter, so the Shear-Link™ remains at 97% of its intact strength. Encased in
stainless steel & acetyl, with a sealed battery access port, and internal antenna,
Shear-Link™was designed for load monitoring under extreme environmental conditions.
"Were excited to release the first totally integrated wireless shear pin, which
provides engineers a reliable and easy to install method for monitoring critical
structural loads. Shear bolts and clevis pins are commonly used to connect loads
on moving parts of machines and vehicles, and the advent of wireless integration
allows these loads to be measured much more easily." said Steve Arms, MicroStrains
President.
