MicroStrain Internship Positions for Summer 2012
Wind Engineering Internship – Work with VP Renewables and Smart Grid to research and develop wireless sensors for utility scale wind turbines and grid integration. Electrical, Mechanical or Civil Engineering background required.
Smart Buildings Internship – Work with VP Renewables and Smart Grid to research and develop wireless sensors for building and energy management systems. Electrical, Mechanical or Civil Engineering background required.
Web Dashboard Internship - Work with VP Renewables and Smart Grid to research and develop dashboards using the SensorCloud® platform as a backend and using the SensorCloud® Open Data API. Should be web savvy and have an eye for design. Computer, Electrical, Mechanical or Civil Engineering background required.
Mobile App developer Internship: Work with SensorCloud team to develop native iOS and Android applications for the SensorCloud platform (http://www.sensorcloud.com). Applicants should possess a background in CS/EE, and previous mobile app development experience is preferred.
Mechanical Engineering Internship: Work with Electrical and Mechanical Engineers to create both 3D models and 2D drawings of our wireless sensing and energy harvesting products. You will have the opportunity to work with multiple machinists and implement your own design features.
Business Intelligence (BI) Internship: Work closely with operations & sales teams to adopt/develop/deploy cutting edge BI tools for extracting meaningful information from internal SQL databases. Should possess a technical background in CS, IT, Business Information Systems, or equivalent, and excellent verbal and written communications skills.
Embedded Systems Internship: Work with embedded systems team to integrate new cellular, AGPS, and satellite modem technologies with wireless sensor product line. EE/CS major required, and prior experience with ARM, TI, or MicroChip embedded development preferred.
Web UI/UX Design Internship: Assist software team in developing modern application interfaces for both the web and desktop that are simple, efficient, user-friendly, and functional. Creativity required, and must have experience with JavaScript and HTML/CSS. Knowledge of UI/UX best practices preferred.
JavaScript Internship: Work with a team of software engineers to build next generation applictions using modern JavaScript techniques, jQuery, and HTML5 to drive the convergence of desktop, mobile, and web applications. Previous javascript experience required.
Embedded Networking Internship: Work with embedded systems team to develop and test new features for MicroStrain's network connected devices and gateways. EE/CS or related major required, and prior experience with Linux and/or secure network communications preferred.
Data Mining Internship: Work with SensorCloud MathEngine platform to develop and deploy new data analysis algorithms in Octave/MATLAB and R. CS/Math/Statistics/EE or equivalent major required, and prior experience with R programming language preferred.
IT Internship: Help MicroStrain IT team expand and maintain software and hardware infrastructure in our modern 30,000SF facility. Relevant CS/IT major required, and prior IT experience preferred.
Web Applications Internship: Work with SensorCloud team on new projects ranging from scalable processing of massive data sets to building automated testing tools. CS or related degree required, experience with server applications preferred.

Software Engineer
At MicroStrain we're constantly pushing the limits, designing the next generation of advanced sensing systems, and helping to build the internet of things.
MicroStrain is currently seeking a top-notch software engineer to help lead the development of our new flagship desktop application. This new application will interface with a large range of MicroStrain's devices and sensors, and will provide our customers with seamless and efficient access to the measurement information provided by those devices.
Candidates should have a strong understanding of software development and basic computer theory, with a focus on desktop application development. Expertise and interest in GUI layout and architecture development is a must. The ideal candidate will also posses experience interfacing with hardware devices via a USB or serial connection.
Education and Experience:- BS in Computer Science or related field
- 5+ years of professional desktop application development experience
- Proven ability to develop well tested and maintainable code
- Experience with effective GUI design and layout
- Very knowledgeable of modern C++ coding and best practices
- Strong object oriented design skills
- Ability to turn high level requirements into actionable tasks working with minimal supervision
- Strong learning ability, can understand complex system and come up to speed on existing projects quickly
- Experience programming software to interface with hardware

Embedded Systems Engineer
The Embedded Systems Engineer will be responsible for firmware development aspects of new product development programs, and for providing sustaining engineering support for existing product lines. Major focus of activities will be:
- Develop and test firmware for embedded sensing, DSP, and data aggregation platforms.
- Work with small team of mechanical, electrical and CS engineers for final software-hardware integration and test.
BS in CS or Electrical Engineering or equivalent. Other desired experience includes:
- PIC, MSP430, or Cortex-M3 platforms
- Wireless technologies and protocols including IEEE802.15.4, Bluetooth, UWB
- USB, CAN, RS-485, Ethernet, LIN, GPS
- Secure communication methods including AES and ECC
- Experience with Linux, C++, Visual Basic, python, or Labview
